help! friend is in stage 1 anorexia!

by Preslee
(Texas)

My friend just told me that she has stage 1 anorexia. I knew she had lost a significant amount of weight and had low blood pressure, but never imagined it would come to this. I am supporting her and helping her but I really don't know what to do because this has never happened to me before because I'm small for my age and don't weigh very much to begin with. Is there anything else I can do to help her?

help for anorexic friend

Hi Preslee,

Nice to hear from you. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's situation.

However, you are doing everything you need to do by supporting her and simply being a friend. There is really nothing else you can do except perhaps provide her with information about support groups in your area.

You may like to attend the meetings with her to show your support as well. It may also be worthwhile encouraging her to see her doctor to discuss the matter.

I wish both you and your friend all the very best for the future.

Take care,

Steve.

3 C’s of Achieving Your Ideal Shape

by Alesha Wilson
(Wilmington, NC)

Over the years, there had been plenty of weight loss principles sprouting one after the other. There are also diet options that say you can lose weight drastically in as short as two weeks. What’s funny is that one method seems to go against the other. In the end, you become more confused than when you began searching for the best diet tips to live by. You don’t have to do anything complicated as long as you learn these three principles:

1. Commit. When you start a diet, learn to commit to it. Most people fail at this because they think that cheating in their diet every once in a while isn’t that big a deal, but what they don’t know is that it can undo everything they’ve worked hard to achieve.

2. Control. This is even harder. When you are in a room filled with the delicious aroma of cakes and desserts, there seems to be nothing for you to do but cave in. To help control your appetite, you can just think about what kinds of unhealthy things are present in those delicacies. For example, think about whether that luscious chocolate cake was prepared using sugar or aspartame, which has a variety of side effects.

3. Concoct. Instead of buying food from restaurants, opt to create your own meals. Prepare only a small serving that’s loaded with vitamins and minerals. You can also control the amount of sugar or fats you use, which makes it even healthier. Cooking for yourself will also be enjoyable if you experiment with spices that change the taste of the dish.

There is no shortcut in achieving the body you want, especially when you are not giving it your best shot. If you are really serious about getting results, whether you want to lose weight or gain muscles, you need to commit, control, and concoct.
