The Amazing Health

There are so many health benefits of fish oil, some of which haven't even been discovered yet, that make it an essential supplement to use on a daily basis.
Of course, it may be possible to get the health benefits of fish oil by simply eating fish, however, the amounts that are required by the body in order to have a therapeutic effect make it impractical. Therefore, it is much easier to simply consume fish oil in supplemental form.
Fish oil is composed of mainly omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids make up one of two essential fatty acids (EFAs), the other being omega-6 fatty acids.
They are called 'essential' fatty acids because they can't be made by the body and therefore must be supplied in the diet either from food or in supplemental form.
Fat burning
When you consider that essential fatty acids are involved in oxygen transport and delivery, oxidation and energy production in cells and
organelles, it is no surprise that EFAs help promote fat burning in the body.
Plus, since they are a component of our cell membranes, they can increase the 'fluidity' of the cell membranes, which improves nutrient transport into the cells as well as the transport of wastes out of the cells.
In fact, a good body of research now demonstrates the fat burning effects of EFAs, particularly fish oils. In fact, it has been shown that a reasonable intake of EFAs (12-15% of total calorie intake), increases the body's metabolism. It is believed to result from the increased electron and energy transport capabilities.
Oxygen transport
EFAs are thought to be involved in the transport of oxygen throughout the body. Even though the mechanism through
which they are involved is not well understood, they are considered to be involved in the transport of oxygen from the air in our lungs, to the
attachment of oxygen to haemoglobin in red blood cells, and then from the red blood cells to the body cells and even within the cells themselves
to the organelles 'small organs' within cells.
EFAs are considered to be 'oxygen magnets', wherey they pull oxygen into and around our body like a magnet pulls iron filings. Since oxygen is required for complete fat burning, another of the many benefits of fish oil includes assisting the ody in the burning of fat for fuel.
The EFAs also hold oxygen in our cells membranes where they act as a barrier to viruses, fungi and bacteria they cannot survive in its presence.
Cell membrane component
EFAs are a component of all cell membranes and since our bodies are made up of trillions of cells, it stands
to reason the importance they carry.
They hold proteins in the membranes and therefore are involved in the transport of nutrients into the cells and wastes out of the cells. They do this via protein channels, pumps and several other mechanisms.
EFAs also create electrical potentials along cells membranes, which may transmit messages to other cells.
EFAs also make up the membranes of the cell organelles located within all cells, which include: endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, vesicles, mitochondria, nucleolus and the nucleus.
Since EFAs make up such important components of cells, especially in the area of nutrient transport, supplementing with fish oils is another one of the benefits of fish oil.
Decrease recovery time
EFAs have been shown to reduce the recovery time of muscles after exercise. It does this by promoting the
conversion of lactic acid into caron dioxide and water.
The EFAs are also involved in the production of various hormones that may assist the body during the recovery process.
This is one of the health benefits of fish oil that may assist in muscle growth or at least the maintenance of muscle, and by doing so may help promote greater fat burning in the body.
Prostaglandin production
EFAs are the precursors of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are short-lived, hormone-like substances that
regulate the functions of cells.
Each type of prostaglandin has a highly specialised function. Prostaglandins from fish oils or more specifically, EPA, which is one of the fatty acids contained in fish oil, prevents the negative cardiovascular changes, water retention and inflammation caused by the 'ad' prostaglandins. This is one of the major benefits of fish oil.
Lowers cholesterol
One of the enormous benefits of fish oils is that it has the ability to lower elevated blood fats by up to 65%!
Tissue growth and cell division
The metabolism-boosting effects of EFAs help with tissue growth. They also maintain chromosomal
stability and help support normal gene expression.
Brain development
There are some very important benefits of fish oils for children, particularly because it is required for brain
development. In fact, deficiencies of omega-3s may result in learning deficiencies.
Various other benefits of fish oils
Fish oils can also promote skin smoothness, increase fitness, and can reduce stress, inflammation
and water retention.
Some fish oil benefits also include: inhibiting the growth of tumours, enhancing the immune system, and reducing inflammation.
Overall, there are so many health benefits of fish oil, which make it an essential part of everyody's diet. It is estimated that we should consume between 4-6 grams of fish oil a day for general health or increase the amount up to 12 grams a day for more serious health conditions.
Oviously, always work with a doctor if you require the fish oil benefits for serious health conditions.
