Exercise must be an essential part of any weight-loss program. It can accelerate your weight-loss results as well as helping you keep the weight off long term.
Unfortunately though, many people have negative associations with exercise. This may have resulted from an experience in their past or from incorrect beliefs they have around exercise.
For example, many people believe that exercise has to be hard if they want to get results. ‘No Pain, No Gain’ is a common slogan. Plus, they see weight-loss programs on TV with overweight people working out very hard and they can’t see themselves exercising at that level of intensity.

Of course, it is not necessary to exercise at the level of intensity that we may have done in previous years but it is necessary to perform close to the same amount (duration) of exercise that we have done in the past. Better yet, we should perform even more!
Plus, we need to find the type of exercise that suits us physically as well as fitting into our lifestyle. If we have arthritic joints then high impact activities like running probably wouldn’t suit us and swimming or cycling may be better options.

Ideally, exercise must become something you do every day. It may be gardening one day, walking around the shops on another day or perhaps even a workout in the gym.
Try to perform at least 30 minutes of exercise every day or at the very least 5 times a week. As was previously mentioned you don’t need to push yourself or workout extremely hard, you just need to be consistent. It will help make achieving and maintaining a fantastic body as we age a much easier task.
Always remember that the best exercises for losing weight are the ones that you enjoy, can fit comforably into your lifestyle and most importantly, can make a permanent part of your life!
