Just in the brief time I've spent skimming a few articles I'm shocked. I have been going about this in the wrong way. I like many others didn't get the whole picture about protein shakes. I just looked for the quick fix. The fastest and easiest way. I will regroup and get the details and hopefully then start losing the weight.

Protein shakes for weight loss

You're absolutely right! There is so much confusion and mis-information when it comes to selecting the right protein powder, especially for weight loss!

Most of the 'weight-loss' powders on the market are loaded with high GI carb, and contain low-quality protein. But since many of the companies promoting these products have million-dollar marketing budgets, they are still able to sell their rubbish products to an unsuspecting public.

Shake Diet Feedback

Hello,

I enjoyed your article on the protein shakes. I am a nursing mom but have not lost a lot of weight. I have intense sugar cravings and am always hungry. I am looking for a way to lose weight quickly when I am done nursing in 6 weeks.

I was surprised to read about the "rebound" effect. I was under the same illusion that protein shake diets were healthy because of how widely they are promoted.

Thanks for your great article! I will avoid the shake diets and will use them more appropriately. I will also try some of the other techniques that you offer.

Shake Diets

Hi Bridgett,

Great to hear from you and thanks for your feedback on the article.

Your situation is certainly not uncommon and with all the hype surrounding these shake diets it is totally understandable that many people believe it is the correct way to go.

In saying that, it certainly doesn't mean shakes don't have a place in a healthy diet. They are a great mid-morning/ mid-afternoon/ supper meal/ snack. I would even go as far to say that you could have one for breakfast occasionally!

Shakes make it much easier to have your 5 or 6 meals a day.

As far as your cravings are concerned, there are several things you can do:

1. Don't skip any meals.
2. Take a multivitamin/ mineral supplement.
3. Have 'complete' meals.
4. Use GI Factor.
5. Increase your portion sizes slightly.
