The Chocolate Facts You Need to Know!
Here are the chocolate facts you need to know! We've all seen the 'health experts' on television promoting the health benefits of chocolate but the fact is that chocolate, as a general rule, is not healthy at all and the sooner people accept that fact and stop deceiving themselves, the sooner they will lose weight and get results!
Sure, chocolate does have a small amount of antioxidants, which come from the cocoa it contains and of course dark chocolate has more antioxidants than milk chocolate, but do you really think it contains more antioxidant content than berries or other superfoods? Of course not! It is simply an excuse people can easily roll out every time they want to indulge in one of their favourite foods without feeling guilty. It is the exact same ridiculous excuse people use when they want to drink red wine!
The bottom line is this, if you want to lose weight fast and more importantly keep the weight off long term, then you simply cannot eat chocolate or drink wine for that matter, on a regular basis.
Here are some interesting chocolate facts!
Most people when they sit down to watch their favourite television program or film can quite easily eat a standard 200g block of Cadbury chocolate, I know because I've done it myself! However, what most people may or may not know is that when they've eaten that block of Cadbury chocolate they've just consumed over 60 grams of fat, over 120 grams of carbohydrate and around 15 grams of protein.
Now, let's put these rather startling chocolate facts in perspective. Throughout this website we discuss what most people should consume of each macronutrient (carbohydrate, protein and fat) each day if they want to lose weight quickly without starving themselves to be able to keep the weight off long term.
If someone is consuming 5 or 6 small meals a day as I recommend, then each of those meals should contain around 10-20 grams of carbohydrate, 10-30 grams of protein and 5-10 grams of fat. This equates to 50-100 grams of carbohydrate, 50-150 grams of protein and 25-50 grams of fat per day!
Getting back to our 200g block of chocolate that we just ate quite comfortably whilst sitting on the couch watching Leonardo in his latest escapade, we realise that we have just eaten more than our daily carbohydrate allowance, which is mainly sugar of course, and almost double our daily fat intake in one sitting! Do you really think the miniscule amount of antioxidants we ate with it are going to justify the massive increase in sugar, calories and fat we just consumed! Not even close! The chocolate facts are that the antioxidants they contain won't even be enough to compensate for the trans fats (extremely harmful fats) that were contained in the chocolate!
Now, I'm not saying that your days of eating chocolate are over, far from it. I just want you to understand the chocolate facts and the main one is that chocolate is not good for you, full stop. The health benefits of chocolate are realistically so minimal that the health consequences of eating chocolate far out-weigh the benefits every single time! So if you want to have some chocolate as a treat once a week, perhaps on your Treat Day, then fine go ahead but if you eat it more often than that, then you need to consciously control your portion sizes otherwise you will find it extremely difficult to get the results you want.
As a result, the next time you hear some so-called health expert on television try and justify eating chocolate, just know that they are there simply to promote themselves and/ or their services and the television show is happy to air the program because it is good for ratings- people will watch it because it tells them what they want to hear!
To be completely honest, people don't want to hear the truth. They don't want to hear that you must exercise or that you can't drink beer and eat pizza every night if you want to lose weight. They want to be told that losing weight requires no effort, is just easy as it was to put it on in the first place and that you can lose weight whilst enjoying chocolate and red wine! Some people need to wake up!
The health benefits of chocolate are so minimal that it is like try to say that it is not their fault that they're overweight! I'm sorry if that statement offends some people but that fact is that they're the ones who've decided what to put into their mouth and no matter what lies they've been told by the governments or 'health' organisations or what happened to them as a child, the fact is that they've done it, no-one else!
If you seriously want to lose weight all you really need to do is simply make a decision to eat less, eat better and exercise more. It really is that simple and the sooner most people face the reality that they've got no-one to blame but themselves for their current physical condition, then the quicker they can take some personal responsibility and take the steps necessary towards losing weight and finally getting the results they want.
Plus, it is not going to be easy. There are no quick fixes. It is going to take time and effort. Just like there is no such thing as 'get-rich-quick', there is no such thing as 'lose fat fast'! Sure, you can lose weight fast but not fat and there is a massive difference between the two.
Overall, once you understand these chocolate facts and control your intake accordingly, you will achieve your results much faster while still being able to enjoy the good things in life!
