How to Manipulate Your
Daily Calorie Intake to Enhance Weight Loss

A study conducted in Israel has found that by manipulating your daily calorie intake you can enhance your weight-loss efforts. It confirmed the old adage: 'Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper!'

By simply consuming a greater proportion of your daily calorie intake earlier in the day and gradually tapering off your calorie intake as the day progresses, you will be able to lose weight faster!


The study involved a group of women with metabolic syndrome. They were separated into two groups. Both groups ate the same amount of calories each day (1,400 calories). The only difference was that one group had 700 calories for breakfast, 500 calories for lunch, and 200 calories for dinner, while the second group had 200 calories for breakfast, 500 calories for lunch, and 700 calories for dinner. The duration of the study was 12 weeks.

The results showed a greater weight loss and waist circumference reduction in the group consuming a large breakfast compared to the group that consumed a large dinner. Plus, even though both groups reduced fasting glucose levels, insulin, and ghrelin, the group that consumed the large breakfast had a significantly greater reduction.

Furthermore, average triglyceride levels decreased in the large breakfast group while average triglycerides increased in the large dinner group. Also, hunger scores in the large breakfast group were lower than in the large dinner group.

Overall, this study confirms what most people already know about manipulating their daily calorie intake to lose weight. However, practical application of this principle may be difficult.

Since most people are used to having their largest meal at the end of the day, changing this habit and consuming more food earlier in the day may be difficult, especially when you're rushing around getting ready for work and/ or getting the kids ready for school. Furthermore, if it requires you to eat different than the rest of your family, this may also make implementing this principle quite difficult.

Nevertheless, even if you're able to simply embrace the principles by simply trying to eat slightly more earlier in the day and slightly less in your evening meal, you will still get some of the benefits this principle offers!
