How to Make Your
Diet Shakes More Filling

Many people use diet shakes these days. Unfortunately though, one of the biggest problems with most of the weight loss shakes is that they don't make you feel satisfied after having them. In this article we will show you some easy ways to make your weight loss shakes more filling and satisfying when you have them.

Of course, we will assume that you are using weight loss shakes correctly and are not following one of the ridiculous shake diets that are on the market today. This means that you use weight loss shakes as a snack/ meal replacement for your mid-morning, mid-afternoon or post-exercise meals only.

Of course, if you want to have the occasional weight loss shake for breakfast then that is okay but I certainly do not recommend replacing breakfast and lunch with diet shakes as the shake diets suggest doing. It is simply not a long-term sustainable strategy for good nutrition.

Diet Shakes

High-quality weight loss shakes do contain substantial amounts of protein and this in itself has significant appetite-suppressing effects. However, since whey protein is rapidly digested and absorbed into the body, it can often have users end up feeling unsatisfied shortly after finishing them. It is not uncommon for users of weight loss shakes to feel hungry within 30 minutes following the consumption of one of their shakes.

Simple strategies to make your
diet shakes more filling

Add psyllium husks

Adding 1-2 teaspoons of psyllium husks to your shakes is a great way to add more 'bulk' to the shake. Psyllium husks are a water-soluble fibre that helps to make you feel full. They are a great addition to your cereal or shakes in order to help you feel fuller for longer.

They also have the added benefit of slowing down the absorption rate of the nutrients from the shakes so if the weight loss shakes contain carbohydrates they can make it easier to keep your blood glucose level stable. This will also contribute to the diet shake helping you feel more satisfied.

The slower absorption rate also means that you will have a sustained release of amino acids into the blood stream. This provides the body with an anti-catabolic effect, which means it may prevent the breakdown of muscle. This will of course, keep your metabolism elevated and assist your fat-burning and weight-loss efforts.

Add flax seed oil

By adding a teaspoon or two of flax seed oil to your weight loss shakes not only do you improve the taste of the shake and give your body the additional benefits of omega-3s but you also help to slow down the absorption rate of the nutrients from the shake even further.

Then are plenty of weight loss shake recipes available. It is so important to ensure the shakes taste nice so you can make them a sustainable lifestyle habit, as you should do if you want to lose weight. If they're not tasty, then eventually you'll stop having them.
