Eat natural foods as your only source of carbohydrates

By this definition it means you can eat fruits, vegetables, sprouts, rice, nuts, seeds, and oats. It also means you can't eat/ drink the following foods: bread, pasta, baked goods, fruit juice, vegetable juice, milk, yoghurt, cheese, sauces, jams.

Even though fruit and vegetable juices are 'natural', they are a very concentrated source of carbohydrates and as such, have been excluded from the 'allowed' list.

Now let's examine why so many carbohydrate sources have been excluded.

Firstly, let's consider the gluten-containing products. These are mainly bread, pasta and baked goods. Oats (allowed) also contain a small amount of gluten and considering you only have a small amount of them for breakfast, either on their own or in natural muesli, they are okay to have. [NOTE: Oats are usually processed at a plant that also processes gluten-containing products. In their natural state they don't contain any gluten.]

Gluten is a protein found in a range of foods particularly in grain-based foods, like wheat. The human body has not been designed to consume wheat, particularly in the quantities that many people consume it, and in the amounts that are generally recommended by conventional dieticians and nutritionists.

Gluten tends to cause 'silent inflammation' in the body, which is characterised by a mild inflammatory response that includes the production of inflammatory cytokines and retention of fluid (something that must be avoided if you're trying to lose weight).

Another reason why bread and pasta are to be avoided is simply because they are concentrated sources of carbohydrates that can have an effect on your blood sugar level. Rice and oats are permitted though despite also being 'high-density' carbohydrate sources so make sure you only consume very small amounts of them, i.e. Allow yourself one 30-gram serve of oats/ natural muesli a day and 1/2 cup of cooked rice a day.

Dairy foods also cause a silent inflammatory effect in the body and are therefore also excluded from the 'natural carbohydrate group'.

All juices, both fruit and vegetable juices, are not permitted simply because they are concentrated sources of carbohydrates. They are far more concentrated than their whole-food counterparts simply because they have had their fibre removed. Sauces and jams are also concentrated sources of carbs that are loaded with added sugar and as such, should also be avoided.

Virtually all high-density sources of carbohydrates must be avoided if you want to lose weight. This is because they have an effect on our blood sugar level and also on insulin production in our bodies. When we consume them our blood sugar level rises significantly. As a result, so does our insulin level (which gets secreted by our pancreas). Insulin has the effect of storing carbohydrates in our body, as glycogen but also potentially as fat.

Furthermore, insulin also stops our bodies from mobilising fat from the fat stores and using it as a fuel source. This means fat burning stops.

Most natural foods (but not all) don't have the same impact on blood sugar levels compared to refined carbohydrate sources. This is why they are far better options and make up the very best weight loss diet tip!

The reason why consuming only natural carbohydrate sources is the best weight loss diet tip is simply because that is the way the human body has been designed! We have not been designed to consume high-processed, high-density carbohydrate sources. Therefore, the more we focus on consuming natural sources of carbohydrates, the better our body will function and the faster we will be able to lose weight and keep it off!
