Easy Steps To Lose Weight

by Paul Simpson
(UK)

It is said that patience is a virtue and the best things come to those who wait. That’s because taking your time allows you to carefully weigh up your options and select the best alternative for you. In saying that, you should think carefully about how you are going to prepare your weight loss plan.

Take the time now to think about how you intend to lose weight and some of the principles you will use. Get to grips with the all information available on this website for example and you will be taking the first steps towards quick weight loss.

Part of the planning process should take the form of initial calorie intake documentation. When you think about it, you can’t prepare for something you don’t know about. With that thought in mind you should really take a little time considering what exactly you are putting in to your body. Plus, calorie calculating isn’t something you need to spend too much time on; simply use it to have a better understanding of the correct portion sizes for you. Once this is done, there is no need to continue calculating calories.

To get an idea of what you should do to start with, simply keep a journal of your daily food intake. Record every meal and snack in a note book and if possible, the portion sizes as well. Also, keep track of things like the time that you eat. If you are feeling extra diligent you could even write down the length of time it took you to eat. This might sound silly but eating time does play a part in digestion and weight gain.

Your journal should be kept as honestly as possible. Resist the temptation to ‘fiddle’ the figures. Remember that through cheating the book you are ultimately only cheating yourself. After creating the habit of recording your food intake for a week or so, it’s time review how you’ve gone. Flag up the foods that need to be reduced or even removed altogether.

For instance, you may notice that you are drinking a lot of fizzy drinks. If so, simply reduce the amount of these you drink or better still, drink water, flavoured or unflavoured, instead. Always be thinking about the healthier options you could be using. For instance, do you like putting mayonnaise on your sandwiches? Have you thought about using mustard instead?

Low-fat and low-calorie options are available for most foods and many of these are natural and tasty. Start trying to eat healthy in most meals. For instance, choose lean meats such as turkey, chicken and fish. These are all very good, low-fat options.

In fact, the odd food treat every now and again can actually benefit you by releasing endorphins (‘feel good’ hormones). The problem is when foods like chocolate stop becoming a treat and become a habit or daily part of your diet. Make chocolates a luxury and not a routine. Chocolates are not, or at least they should not be, a part of your regular diet. So do not indulge too much in them.

As mentioned earlier, you do not have to completely deprive yourself of everything. Just think smart about what you are eating and avoid getting into bad habits. As was stated right at the start, patience is a virtue and none more so than when it comes to losing weight. It might take a week or two before you notice any changes, but they will steadily appear. After the first month you will be able to see the results and measure them in terms of looser fitting clothes.

Keeping your motivation up is one of the most difficult aspects of dieting. There will be days when healthy eating goes out the window and there will be weeks where you may not lose any weight or worse still, put a little back on.

This is normal for everyone, dieters or not, so don't let it undo your plans for a slimmer you. You’re not doing anything 'wrong', but you may need to look at your plan. Do you need to increase your activity levels? Make a few more changes to your diet? Put more effort into sticking to your current plan?
