Cutting them out totally is a philosophy of many low-carb diets on the market. However, these are very hard to sustain long-term and may lead to nutrient deficiencies. Each day, have a small amount (1-2 serves) of high density carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, cereals). Also have a moderate amount (3-4 serves) of medium density carbohydrates (starchy vegetables and fruits). Finally, have a large amount (5-6 serves) of low density carbohydrates (fibrous vegetables). 2. Eat small meals frequentlyNutrition experts now recommend we consume 5-6 meals/ snacks each day. This helps to maintain our energy levels, boost our metabolism, prevent muscle breakdown and keep our body happily using fat as a fuel source throughout the day. This means we will lose weight faster. However, most people find it difficult to have a meal every 2-3 hours throughout the day because they are so busy. Here are some suggestions to ensure you get your 5-6 meals a day and turn your body into a 24-hour a day fat-burning machine!• Plan and prepare your meals the night before • Use meal replacements (shakes or bars) • Select foods that are quick and easy to prepare and consume

Drink more waterYour body is made up of around 70% water and in order to ensure proper functioning of all your body cells, it is essential that you are well hydrated at all times. If you become dehydrated the metabolic functioning of all your body cells becomes impaired, which means the burning of fat for fuel also becomes impaired. Everyday you should drink at least 250mls of water for every 10 kilograms of body weight you have. This will ensure proper functioning of all body cells and therefore efficient use of fat for fuel. Keep in mind that feeling thirsty is not a good indicator of when to drink water. If you feel thirsty it means your body is already dehydrated.
