The strategies here aren't designed to help you get ripped abs but they can certainly help you flatten your stomach, lose weight quickly and improve your overall health.

It is interesting to note that getting a flat stomach doesn't simply require performing ab workouts. In fact, you don't necessarily need to do ab workouts at all but they can certainly help. The most important principles to use if you want to flatten your stomach are in the areas of nutrition and aerobic exercise.

In this article we will cover the best ways to get a flat stomach fast and whilst achieving a flat stomach does involve some fat-burning and weight-loss principles, it also involves strategies to help you flatten your stomach through some very simple ways.

Achieve a Flat Stomach Fast!

What causes your stomach to stick out?

Before we look at the strategies to help flatten your stomach, the first thing we need to do is examine the reason why your stomach sticks out in the first place! Of course, carrying too much body fat is certainly one reason why your stomach sticks out but it is not the only reason. A protruding stomach may also be caused by bloating and slow gastro-intestinal transit time (slow passage of food through the gut).

Therefore, before we look at some of the basic fat-burning strategies, which are already featured throughout this website, we will cover how you can easily flatten your stomach by reducing your bloating and by decreasing the gastro-intestinal transit time.

How to reduce bloating

One of the very best stratgeies to reduce bloating is to simply reduce your intake of dairy foods and grain-based (gluten-containing foods). Since the human body is not well designed to be able to digest these foods, reducing your intake of them can go a long way in helping you decrease the negative impact they potentially have on your body.

Despite what you may have heard previously from dieticians, nutritionists, health organisations or even the government, these foods are not required by your body and limiting your intake of them will certainly improve your health as well as help you achieve a flat stomach. The fact is that these foods were only introduced into our diet around 10,000 years ago with the advent of agriculture and later (6,000 years ago) animal husbandry.

The human body, however, has been evolving over hundreds of thousands of years and has not yet had enough time (from an evolutionary perspective) to adapt to eating these foods. Therefore, when they are consumed they tend to cause an inflammatory response in the body, which means the body retains fluid and produces gas. The fluid retention can contribute to weight gain and the gas can cause bloating, which may be one of the contributing factors to a protruding stomach.

Of course everyone reacts differently to consumng these foods. Some people's bodies can handles consuming these foods okay and will have little reaction, but others tend to react more severely. Nevertheless, restricting your intake of these foods will help you flatten your stomach. There's no need to cut them out entirely from your diet but the more your restrict them, the better off you'll be.

How to decrease the gastro-intestinal transit time

Most people don't consume enough fiber. Therefore, it takes longer for food to pass through the gut, i.e. the gastro-intestinal time increases. Since food tends to remain in the gut for longer, it may contribute to a protruding stomach. Therefore, if you can speed up the rate by which food passes through the gut you can decrease the gastro-intestinal transit time and therefore achieve a flat stomach.

Of course, the easiest way to do this is by consuming more high fiber foods. A great example of a high fiber food that is definitely worthwhile adding to your diet is psyllium husk. You can simply add 1-2 teaspoons to your cereal in the morning (with rice milk or oat milk of course!) or add a teaspoon or two to your diet shakes.

Another way to ensure you get enough fiber in your diet is by consuming fruits and vegetables every day. If you make an effort to consume 2 pieces of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables each day along with some psyllium husk, you will definitely be able to ensure you get enough fiber in your diet and this will help you achieve a flat stomach.

The best exercise for achieving a flat stomach

The best form of exercise in order to flatten your stomach is aerobic exercise. Of course, performing ab workouts may help to build the abdominal muscles, but they do very little for actually burning the fat that overlies them. Aerobic exercise is the best form of exercise to perform in order to help you burn off body fat quickly and achieve a flat stomach fast!

Lifting weights can also contibute to losing weight because it helps to build or at least maintain your muscle mass, which means it keeps your metabolism elevated. However, the effects from a fat-burning perspective are slower compared to simply performing aerobic exercise on a regular basis.

If you simply make an effort to perform at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise almost every day (6 days a week), you will be amazed at how quickly you can achieve a flat stomach. Furthermore, you don't need to perform interval training in order to get the results you want, although it is definitely a great way to go, all you need to do is to simply created the habit of performing aerobic exercise virtually every day.

Nutritional strategies to help you achieve a flat stomach

We have already covered a couple of nutritional strategies for helping you flatten your stomach and here are several additional strategies that can make a big difference as well:

  • Have more fat burning foods
  • Have protein with every meal
  • Follow a high protein low carb diet
  • Fat burning foods can help you speed up your metabolism and burn body fat faster. Simply make an effort to include these foods in your diet every day and they will certainly contribute to helping you achieve a flat stomach.

Protein can help to maintain your muscle mass, which will keep your metabolism elevated and will help you burn more fat and flatten your stomach.

By following a high protein low carb diet you will be able to assist your body's fat-burning machanisms through various means. Keep in mind that a high protein low fat diet does not have to be extreme, it simply means that when it comes to the contribution of calories from protein and carbs in your daily food intake, slightly more comes from protein.
