High blood sugar readings

by Christine
(Newcastle NSW Australia)

For the last 2 months I have been excercising at least 5 days a week for a least 1/2 hour each session at a gym. I also started cutting back my bread intake (multigrain) and have reduced my carbohydrate intake and my total food intake.

Previously I was eating cakes, biscuits, chocolates, pies, hot chips, cold chips and totally not exercising. The results after 2 months are shocking and I don't understand why.

However your article has given me some tips. My blood sugar went from 6 to high 7s to 9. I lost a small amount of weight 2.2Kg and 21cm (over entire body.) My body fat increased (the gym has a body fat monitor).

My weight loss is very slow. My resting heart rate is 52. At the gym I battle to get it up to 100 even though I'm going flat out on the machines and jumping and waving my arms around on the pads in between each machine. I think I may have cut back too much and am not eating enough also not enough fat and fibre.

I prepare most of my food and make it fresh where possible, not from packets or tins.

high blood sugar and slow weight loss
by: Steve

Hi Christine,

Nice to hear from you but I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

Firstly, I'd just like to say that you must ignore the bodyfat scales at your gym! They are hopelessly inaccurate! It is virtually impossible to have lost weight and cms and to have put on bodyfat! Don't worry about those damn things! Bodyfat scales have caused more grief and frustration in gyms around the world than anything else I know of.

Next, the fact that you can't increase your heart rate above 100 bpm is a real concern. Are you using any medication, i.e. beta blockers?

Also, other medications may slow down your weight-loss efforts too. The contraceptive pill, antidepressants, diabetic meds and many others will affect your ability to lose weight.

If you would like to send through your current weight-loss plan I am happy to review it for you and offer any suggestions where necessary.

I wish you the greatest success.

Cheers,

Steve.
