Hunger pangs at night

by Margaret
(Melbourne, Victoria, Australia)

Increasing the carbohydrate during the day, whilst tapering it at night is something new that I learnt from your writing. I am going to try it.
Maybe a drink of Milo at night might help. Is that a good thing to do?

Milo at night
by: Steve

Hi Margaret,

I can't say that I'm a big fan of Milo and if you're wanting to reduce your carbohydrate intake at night, Milo is not the way to go. It is loaded with carbs! Then, when you have say, 250mls of milk with it, you are having even more carbs still.

I think a better idea is to have a protein shake at night if you're feeling hungry. You can have it with a little bit of milk (100mls) and then mix it with water as well. The protein shake is likely to curb your appetite far better than Milo will and it will provide your body with the amino acids it needs to repair and re-build body tissues when you're sleeping at night.
