Why early morning exercise is best

by Vanessa Smit

After reading this article I was going to join a gym and was looking at training after work.

However, after reading the above I may need to re-assess this. I could look at exercising both morning and evening on alternate days. I found this information easy-to-read and can be applied immediately.

It's still worthwhile joining a gym!

Hi Vanessa,

Thanks for your comments.

I still strongly recommend joining the gym as you were thinking of doing. Even though morning exercise is great, the most important fact when it comes to exercise is simply that you do it! Whether you choose to exercise in the morning or in the afternoon doesn't matter as much as simply ensuring that you perform the exercise on a regular basis.

Furthermore, you can still get as good a results by exercising in the afternoon by creating a mild low blood sugar first, and then doing cardio.

For example, you may want to perform a resistance training workout first (after warming up of course), and then perform some cardio afterwards.

Since the resistance exercise tends to be at a higher level of intensity your body will use a greater proportion of carbohydrate (blood sugar and muscle glycogen) as a fuel source. Therefore, when you perform the cardio afterwards your blood sugar will be lower and you will be able to burn more fat, particularly if you take a thermogenic before the workout.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Steve.

early morning exercise article

(Smithton, TAS, Australia)

I found this article interesting and informative. I have often heard about the benefits of exercising early in the day but had never seen the facts presented in such a way that it made sense to me.

I will definitely be incorporating early morning exercise into my lifestyle and I want to thank you for providing the impetus for me to do so...

I will still be having my early morning tea with milk and sugar though!

Thank you.
