It is important to learn muscle building tips when you want to lose weight because they can make a massive difference to the results you can achieve!

Even though building muscle may not be your goal, some of the tips that help someone gain muscle mass can actually help you lose weight fast!

The most obvious muscle building tips to help you lose weight fast revolve around resistance (weight) training. It is amazing that when a person wants to lose weight they never consider weight lifting exercises as an option, under the mistaken belief that this form of exercise will make them gain weight.

The truth is, however, that weight training is probably one of the most under-estimated ways to lose weight fast! Not only does it help you burn off calories during the exercise session itself, but it also forces your body to build, or at least maintain, your existing muscle mass.

Since muscle is one of the most metabolically-active tissues in the body, being able to maintain it or even better increase it, means that your body will be more efficient at burning off body fat.

Women, in particular, are concerned about 'bulking up' or putting on weight by regularly performing weight lifting exercises, and whilst it is possible if you increase your food intake, if you control your food intake it is impossible to gain muscle mass! This is where there is a big difference between someone who wants to gain muscle mass and someone who wants to lose weight.

If you reduce your food intake slightly (and create a mild calorie deficit), as you should do if you want to lose weight, then it is impossible to build muscle! There is simply no extra calories to build muscle with! The only way to build muscle is to provide your body with more calories than it burns up each day. By doing so the body can then use the extra calories to build muscle fast!

Plus, it is extremely difficult for women to build muscle simply because they have fewer muscle fibres compared to men and their bodies produce far less testosterone!

Therefore, if you want to lose weight, you must lift weights and at the same time control your food intake. By doing so, almost all of the weight you lose will come from fat and not precious muscle tissue.

The major drawback of not using muscle building tips when you want to lose weight is the fact that if you don't 'force' your body to maintain your existing muscle mass as you lose weight up to half of the weight you lose will come from muscle! This will slow your metabolism down making further weight loss more difficult.

A loss of muscle, which results in a depressed metabolism, is also one of the main reasons why people tend to put on weight as they age. This makes weight lifting exercises one of the most important activities to perform as we get older.

Not only are the weight lifting exercises important but there are many other muscle building tips that transfer nicely into the area of weight loss.

Nutrition is certainly one area where there is much correlation between eating to build muscle fast and eating to lose weight. Obviously, the amount of food eaten is very different but many other factors are exactly the same. Having 5 or 6 small meals a day, having protein with every meal and increasing protein intake as the day progresses are just a few examples where muscle building tips to gain muscle mass and lose weight are the same.

There are also muscle building supplements that are useful for people who want to lose weight. Whey protein powder, creatine and l-glutamine are all worthwhile supplements for people who want to build muscle fast as well as people who want to lose weight.
