  • High blood pressure
  • Blood pressure medication
  • Pregnant women
  • Nursing women
  • Over 65 years of age
  • Under 18 years of age

    Furthermore, simply loading a product with caffeine means that the effectiveness of the product will be significantly reduced in a relatively short period of time because the body will quickly 'down-regulate' the receptors on the nervous system to the effects of the caffeine.

    Another way some companies try to deceive consumers is by having 'proprietary blends' of ingredients. This means they list all the ingredients on the label without giving exact quantities of each one. Unfortunately, these products usually contain one or two of the cheaper ingredients in 'mega dosages' with the remaining ingredients present in token, non-therapeutic amounts.

    The good news in Australia is that all fat burners must have an AUST L number. This means they have been approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). However, there are still some fat burners being imported from the US that contain proprietary blends. This means their quality may be questionable.

    The best fat burners on the market only contain a moderate amount of caffeine, ideally between 60 and 80mg of caffeine per serve. Caffeine levels higher than this are likely to cause the common side effects that are associated with excessive caffeine consumption.

    Of course, caffeine is a proven fat-burning ingredient and is therefore an essential component of the best fat burners. However, excessive levels are neither required, nor desirable in order to achieve maximum fat-burning effects.

Furthermore, a fat burner that contains high doses of only a couple of ingredients with token doses of the other ingredients means that the body is likely to become de-sensitised to its action much faster. This means that the best fat burner will become less effective in a short period of time.

    Most effective ingredients

    The best fat burners must contain the most effective ingredients for helping your body burn fat and most importantly, contain them in levels that are proven to have a therapeutic effect!

    This means that virtually all of the ingredients contained in the best fat burners either stimulate the central nervous system or the sympathetic nervous system. By doing so your body's metabolism may be elevated significantly which makes it much easier for you to create the required calorie/ energy deficit that is necessary to help your body burn fat.

    If a product contains inferior thermogenic ingredients or 'thermogenic-support' ingredients then maximum fat-burning results cannot occur.

    For example, some thermogenic fat burners contain ingredients that don't burn fat at all but rather assist with the transport of fat or that help create a better 'fat-burning environment' in the body.

    For example, L-Carnitine, is a very well known fatty acid transporter; it is not a thermogenic fat burner at all but is often contained in thermogenic fat burners on the market, usually in dosages that don't have a therapeutic effect. They tend to simply be 'label garnish' and are added to some thermogenic fat burners simply because it is a well-recognised ingredient.

    Also, glucose disposal agents are compounds that can help create a better 'fat-burning environment' in the body by keeping insulin low. Whilst glucose disposal agents may be useful as a completely separate product, they are not present in top-quality thermogenic fat burners simply because they take up space in each capsule that may be given to a thermogenic (fat-burning) ingredient instead.

    Therapeutic levels of ingredients

    In order to qualify as one of the world's best thermogenic fat burners, it is imperative that the thermogenic fat burner contains therapeutic levels of ingredients.

    Some of the best fat burning ingredients are also quite expensive. For example, Citrus Aurantium, whose main active ingredient is synephrine (a.k.a. oxedrine) is an expensive ingredient relative to most other thermogenic ingredients. As a result, many companies don't include it at all or if they do include it, use low dosages.

    Citrus Aurantium is classified as a 'sympathomimetic', which means it stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. This of course, results in greater fat mobilisation and utilisation, which makes Citrus Aurantium one of the most effective fat-burning ingredients on the market today.

    When looking at an ingredient like Citrus Aurantium on the label of a thermogenic fat burner it is important that the active ingredient is also listed not just the herb or fruit that it is derived from.

    For example, the amount of oxedrine or synephrine should be listed along with the Citrus Aurantium and the amount of oxedrine or synephrine should be between 10-15mg per capsule or tablet. Green tea (Camelia sinesis) is another popular ingredient in thermogenic fat burners. It should be listed along with its active ingredient, EGCG (epigallocatechin galate) and this should be at least 135mg per capsule with a daily dose of 270mg per day. 270mg of EGCG has been shown in scientific research to help promote fat burning in the body. If a thermogenic fat burner doesn't contain this level of the active ingredient then it will not be as effective as it should be.

    Some of the best thermogenic ingredients are as follows: caffeine (from guarana or coffee arabica), green tea, citrus aurantium, coleus forskohlii, capsaicum, black pepper extract, evodiamine, ginger and theobroma (black tea extract).

    When it comes to creating the most effective thermogenic fat burner, cost should not be an issue. That is why the best thermogenic fat burners always use the best possible ingredients.

    If you consider the size of the capsules used it is obvious that there is only a limited amount of space in each one. Therefore, if a thermogenic fat burner has a long list of ingredients, how many of the ingredients do you think are in dosages that are effective? Not many of course! There is simply not enough space in the capsule.

    However, some companies employ this strategy because having a long list of ingredients in the nutritional panel looks impressive. Unfortunately though, it means that there are only 'token' amounts of many of the ingredients, which results in compromised effectiveness.

    The best thermogenic fat burners may have only a handful of ingredients but you can rest assured that those ingredients are in dosages that will have you burning fat fast!

    Adrenal support

    One of the mechanisms through which thermogenic fat burners work is by stimulating the adrenal glands to increase their output of the catecholamines, adrenalin and noradrenalin (a.k.a. epinephrine and norepinephrine).

    Unfortunately though, stimulating the release of these hormones may result in adrenal fatigue in a short period of time, which is characterised by constant tiredness, mild depression and cravings for carbohydrates.

    However, the best thermogenic fat burners contain ingredients to help nourish and support the adrenal glands. This reduces the risk of experiencing adrenal fatigue. One ingredient that certain helps to nourish and support the adrenals is Rhodiola. It is a powerful 'Adaptogen' and is an ideal ingredient to be included in a high-quality thermogenic fat burner.

    Plus, by nourishing and supporting the adrenals, the body's ability to keep producing the catecholamines (which assists fat burning) whilst using the thermogenic fat burner will continue.

    It is simply responsible manufacturing on behalf on supplement companies to include ingredients that will improve or support the consumer's health, especially when products contain ingredients that up-regulate certain bodily functions, i.e. increasing adrenal hormone output.

    Easy to use

    In order to make their use a regular part of your lifestyle for a period of time, thermogenic fat burners must be easy to use. There should be no need to gulp down handfuls of capsules in order to assist your body's fat-burning efforts. The best thermogenic fat burners are so powerful that only a couple of capsules need to be taken per day; usually one capsule twice a day is recommended.

    Any thermogenic fat burners that recommend consuming more than a couple of capsules a day means one of two things: You need to take greater amounts of the thermogenic fat burner in order to get the required fat-burning results because the ingredients aren't effective enough or the manufacturer wants you to get through the container faster so you have to go and buy another one!

    This can make using thermogenic fat burners a very expensive exercise, which it certainly shouldn't be. Paying around $1 per serve is a fair price to pay for helping you achieve your fat-burning and weight-loss goals much faster.

    Ultimately, that is all thermogenic fat burners are designed to do, help you lose fat faster! They are certain not 'magic pills' and will not work if your eating habits are poor. You must be willing to combine their use with the correct nutritional habits as well as an exercise program if you want to get results fast.

    Manufactured with strict regulations

    Another major consideration when selecting a thermogenic thermogenic fat burner is their source of manufacture. Products made in the United States are not regulated. Therefore, it is easy for some companies to produce products that do not contain the levels of ingredients that are stated on the label.

    In Australia, however, the TGA (Therapeutic Good Administration) regulates all products that make label claims. In order for a product to receive an 'AUST L' number, it must conform to all the requirement of the TGA.

    These include:

  • Being manufactured at a 'GMP approved' plant (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Requiring rigorous testing to ensure that all levels of ingredients stated on the label are supplied in the product.
  • Ensuring that levels of certain ingredients do not exceed maximum limits.
  • All claims being made on the label are true and correct based on scientific evidence.
  • If a product fulfils these criteria as well as containing the ingredients mentioned earlier in therapeutic doses then it is likely to be an effective product.
