These weight loss motivation tips will help you lose weight and keep it off. Self motivation techniques are a very useful part of any weight loss program. It is imperative that you learn how to build motivation and then how to stay motivated to lose weight.

Most people know what they need to do if they want to lose weight. If they simply reduce their food intake, perform some exercise and take the right supplements the results will follow.

Unfortunately though, maintaining the habits that help people achieve results is the hardest thing for most people to do. For the first month or so their motivation levels are generally high. However, over time, their motivation level begins to fall, which results in them stopping the performance of the habits that help them achieve and then maintain the results they want. Finding motivation to exercise is particularly difficult.


Therefore, the questions remains: how do you stay motivated to lose weight? The answer lies in performing a simple 5-step process that helps you develop intrinsic motivation- the motivation that comes from within and is essential if you are serious about achieving your weight loss goal and then maintaining the results long term. These weight loss motivation tips can help you stay motivated.

1. Create the Goal


The first of these weight loss motivation tips requires the establishment of a clear, specific goal. This gives your mind a target to aim for. It is also best to break the goal into short-term goals. These short-term goals act as check-points or stepping stones as you progress towards your long-term goal.

The goal may be a bodyweight that you want to achieve, a specific amount of weight you want to lose or a certain body fat percentage you want to have. Any of these types of goals are fine. The most important aspect is to create the goal in the first place.

2. Create a time frame


The second step requires you to create a time frame within which you will achieve your goal. Based on the strategies you are going to incorporate into your lifestyle, what is a realistic time frame within which you will achieve the goal? 0.5-1kg per week is a realistic weight loss for most people.

3. List your reasons


A list of reasons as to why you want to lose weight is the third step in the process. These reasons will provide you with the ‘fuel’ to add to the ‘motivation fire’ and will help you strengthen your intrinsic motivation.

It is important that these reasons are very strong because they will help you perform the ‘daily disciplines’- the disciplines or activities that you need to perform on a daily basis in order to see your goal come to fruition.

Your reasons may be related to the fact that you are going away on a holiday or are getting ready for your wedding. Perhaps you want to fit into that ‘little red dress’ that has been sitting in your closet for years. The reasons are very personal and it is worthwhile creating a list of at least 10 motivating reasons.

4. Make a commitment


The fourth step is to make a commitment. Make a commitment to yourself, to your partner, to your friends and family and to your work colleagues. Make your goal very public so everyone will hold you accountable. This will help you stay motivated.

Making a commitment is such an important step in the process because one thing is for sure: Once you commit to something, ‘Life’ tends to put obstacles along your path to see how badly you really want it. A strong commitment will help you blast through any obstacle you may face.

5. Write everything down


The final step of the weight loss motivation tips involves writing everything down and reading it every morning upon arising and also before going to bed each night. Write down your goal, your time frame, your list of reasons and your commitment, which may be in the form of an affirmation.

Try to create as much positive emotion as possible as you read it, imaging yourself as having already achieved your goal. Doing this final step on a consistent basis will plant a ‘seed’ in your subconscious mind and will help that seed germinate and grow into a powerful tree, which cannot be uprooted. They truly are powerful self motivation techniques!
